About
her Learning-Brhaddhvani
Brhaddhvani is a Chennai based non-profit organization
dedicated to research and training in Carnatic music
by Dr. K.S. Subramanian, the founder and director of
Brhaddhvani. The organization was founded in 1989 to
revitalize Carnatic music within a global and contemporary
context.
The organization's integrative and interdisciplinary
approaches to music education make traditional Indian
art forms accessible and relevant to modern culture.
For example, Brhaddhvani has identified basic elements
of Carnatic music needed to master any musical style.
Using fundamental principles of Carnatic music-vocal,
instrumental, philosophical, and theoretical-Brhaddhvani's
curriculum offers its students a base extendable to
different forms of music, including Hindustani, folk,
Western classical, jazz, and advanced Carnatic music.
The organization's unique teaching method relates an
understanding of Carnatic music to learning any musical
style while simultaneously preserving and propagating
tradition. A typical Brhaddhvani student can confidently
perform not only Carnatic music, but also Hindustani,
Western, film, and folk styles of music.
